“Left the world with blue balls” – Brian Ortega wants to settle unfinished business with Yair Rodriguez after UFC Long Island disaster
Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez
Brian Ortega vs Yair Rodriguez was one of the most-anticipated fights and it was truly disappointing that the fight had to come to an uneventful end. T-City also feels the same way and eyes a rematch against the Mexican opponent.
Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez were ready to put on a show for the audience at UBS Arena Elmont, New York. UFC Long Island or UFC on ABC: Ortega vs Rodriguez was a fantastic card up until the main event of the fight. What was shaping up to be a war, ended up being spoiled by a brutal injury to the two-time title contender at the end of the first round.
Brian and Yair were putting on a fantastic fight before Ortega ended up breaking his arm. Yair took advantage of the situation and earned himself a TKO win. Ortega believes it is only right that the two run it back and give the fans what was promised. T-City talks to Megan Olivi about a potential rematch in an interview after his disappointing fight.
Brian Ortega “would love to” fight Yair Rodriguez again in the octagon
“I would love to do it again. I feel like we left the world with blue balls, you know?” said Brian as he spoke to Megan for an ESPN MMA interview after UFC Long Island. “We didn’t get to finish what I wanted to do, you know? How he got up, how he scrambled, how we banged it out…I was ready in my mind to have a dogfight. I was ready to go in there and just impose my will, and I can’t do it with just one arm.”
The winner of the fight was originally the favorite to fight for the title against the champion Alexander Volkanovski. However, after this kind of outcome, there are high chances that the promotion would book another title eliminator to find a clear favorite for the title contender spot. Brian is ready to get back to work as soon as possible. If he doesn’t get a surgery, Ortega is ready to get back into the octagon.
“If he said he’s willing to run it back, I definitely want to get it back. I’m going to go MRI this as soon as I can…I pray to God that I don’t have to get surgery,” said Brian “T-City” Ortega.
