Bryce Mitchell suffered a devastating knockout against Josh Emmett

Bryce Mitchell decided to take a fight against Josh Emmett on short notice. Emmett was supposed to fight Giga Chikadze. However, an injury to Chikadze led Mitchell to fight at UFC 296. As it happened, Mitchell suffered a brutal knockout in the first round against Emmett.

The fight started with a feeling-off session between Emmett and Bryce Mitchell. Both threw some jabs and leg kicks in the first few minutes. However, as soon as both fighters went to exchange strikes with each other, Emmett landed the knockout punch. Both fighters threw their right hands at each other. Emmett evaded the punch and landed clean on Mitchell.

With the win, Emmett snaps his two-fight losing streak. He lost to Yair Rodriguez and Ilia Topuria this year. The win helps Emmett keep his spot in the top ten of the featherweight division. The UFC might try to book the Chikadze fight for him next.

On the other hand, Mitchell suffered his second loss in three fights. Last year, he lost to Ilia Topuria but rebounded with a win over Dan Ige. This loss became a devastating setback for ‘Thug Nasty.’ Mitchell will need to take some time away from the octagon with the way he reacted to the knockout. His body looked like he was having a seizure. Health comes first before everything.

Most fans expected Mitchell and Emmet to go the distance. Despite Emmett’s knockout power, many felt Mitchell’s wrestling would even it out. However, this did not happen. In the first round, Emmett knocked out Mitchell in a brutal fashion.

Fans loved the KO but prayed for Mitchell’s recovery. A knockout of this measure has not happened in some time. Mitchell will need some recovery time before fighting again. As for Emmett, he will return sometime early 2024.
