Khabib Nurmagomedov claps back at Tony Ferguson

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson were scheduled to fight each other at UFC 209 back in 2017. The fight was an interim title bout and had managed to get a lot of attention from the fight fans. However, Khabib failed to appear at the official weigh-ins. The then 28 years old fighter was hospitalized during his weight cut to the 155-pound limit.

Consequently, the co-main event bout between the two at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas was canceled. Doctors recommended that Khabib was in no position to fight and hence the decision was taken. This incident was a major setback for Khabib’s career as this fight would have given him the direct shot at the championship.

Khabib after recovering had to choose the difficult path for the title shot. He took both on Edson Barboza and Al Laquinta after his recovery to finally get the famous fight for the title against the Notorious Conor Mcgregor. Khabib became the champion and indeed ruled the division till 2020 but his canceled bout against Tony Ferguson was never rescheduled.

Recently, Tony recalled the UFC 209 media day as he went on to post a video of the same on his official Twitter account. He captioned tweet writing:

Tony believes that Khabib ate too much of Tiramisu which is an Italian coffee-flavored dessert. For which he wasn’t able to make the weight. Ferguson also called his former rival a fathead. The reason behind the tweet might be his recent rift with Khabib’s childhood friend Islam Makhachev. Makhachev told the media that Tony didn’t accept to fight him on short notice while the Fergusons narrative was totally different.
