In a recent press conference, UFC CEO Dana White fiercely supported fighters’ rights to freely express themselves. He claimed that he places no restrictions or “leashes” on their speech. The heated discussion occurred after middleweight competitor Sean Strickland received condemnation for statements about the LGBT community. Strickland had gone on a rampage at a reporter who had questioned him about his previous comments. Donald Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr. also had some words for White’s bold remarks.

White’s angry response began with a reporter describing the UFC president as giving his fighters a “long leash.” This did not sit well with the UFC CEO and he quickly replied.

First of all, I don’t give anybody a leash. A leash? Free speech. To control what people say and to tell people what to believe – I don’t tell any other f**-ing human being what to say, what to think and there’s no leashes on any of them. It’s ridiculous to say I give somebody a leash. Free speech, brother. People can say whatever they want and they can believe whatever they want.

White emphasized the significance of free speech. He stated that individuals have the freedom to speak whatever they want and hold whatever ideas they desire. The UFC CEO categorically denied that he influenced his athletes’ reactions.

Dana White‘s staunch defense of free speech in the UFC demonstrates his dedication to enabling athletes to speak themselves without intervention. The event involving Sean Strickland, as well as the ensuing interaction with the reporter, shows the complexity of dealing with contentious viewpoints in professional sports.

Dana White is the man. If everyone did this, if everyone showed the same level of contempt of our media back at them like they have shown to us for decades, we could end their nonsense and make them be journalists and not activists once again! @danawhite.
