“Go see a therapist,” Chael Sonnen and Jorge Masvidal’s fiery feud escalates as latter challenges UFC legend to a face-off

UFC Legend Chael Sonnen isn’t called ‘The Bad Guy’ for leisurely measures. The Ex-UFC title contender is notorious for his banter and witty comebacks. With a biting wit and innate talent for hyping up upcoming bouts, the fighter now runs his own YouTube channel, deliberating on topics. Recently, he went into a heated squabble with Ariel Helwani of The MMA Hour.

The contested topic was Francis Ngannou’s payday, which Helwani has estimated with immense guesswork. The feud ended with Sonnen threatening to hurt Helwani, and then up and leave the interview. This has drawn harsh criticism from Jorge Masvidal.

Sonnen’s viral moment of menacingly threatening to choke Helwani made headlines across MMA, and former UFC welterweight title contender Masvidal took notice. While alluding to Sonnen’s history of failed drug tests, he called Sonnen a “dirty” fighter and went so far as to call him a “b*tch.” While Sonnen maintains an analytical disposition, he is not one to lay back. Taking to X, he said:

Go see a Therapist. Point to the spot(s) where Colby hurt you. Have a good cry, punch the pillow, repeat every 2 weeks...

The remarks did not end there. Sonnen referenced Masvidal’s unanimous decision loss to Colby Covington at UFC 272. He also brought up Masvidal’s knockout loss to Kamaru Usman at UFC 261, saying:

Did you go to a Miami Car Shop to have them pull the dent Kamaru Usman put in your face out? On a related note-shouldn't they just have replaced your entire face?

Masvidal also claimed that Helwani came out on top in the verbal exchange. He went on to point out that the fighter lost his composure and physically threatened a journalist. He even challenged Sonnen to face him. As more banter played out, he even challenged him that he would not be so tough face-to-face. This is what instigated further comments from Sonnen.

Chael Sonnen thrashes Jorge Masvidal for threats to Colby Covington

There is a long-standing rivalry between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal. The two welterweight contenders were on a collision course in the main event of UFC 272. Covington won by unanimous decision. He was later attacked by Masvidal outside a steakhouse in Miami.

Recently, the matter has been largely resolved. He took to social media after the plea deal and the accompanying guilty verdict, in which he received no jail time. Masvidal threatened to knock out Covington’s teeth. This did not sit well with UFC analyst Chael Sonnen.

Recently, Sonnen squared off with Ariel Helwani during an interview. Helwani had called him on lying and implied he wanted to undermine Francis Ngannou’s performance. Ngannou had recently fought in the Riyadh Season boxing bout.

Sonnen ended the interview by threatening the journalist. Alluding to this, Masvidal had started an online feud with Sonnen. The latter did not shy away from sharing his mind and invoked his ongoing feud with Covington.

In a classic online twist amongst the banter, he wittily suggested that Masvidal might want to think twice before picking a fight. After all, the winner, Colby Covington, happened to be one of his “students”.
