He recently praised Bantamweight title challenger Sean O’Malley for trash-talking current champion Aljamain Sterling ahead of their fight.
“Suga Sean” took to Twitter, where he said, “Holy shit I just had a fat ass delicious dinner. It was incredible! @funkmaster MMA what did you eat? Was it yum yum?” He took a jibe at Sterling, who is undergoing a tough weight cut to make the 135-pound limit for their fight at UFC 292. Sonnen replied to the tweet by praising O’Malley for having “the most unique trash talk.”
Sterling also replied to the tweet by saying, “Just a big boy steak. Something lite.” The two bantamweights faced off against each other after Sterling’s win against UFC veteran Henry Cejudo at UFC 288. They shared a heated back-and-forth moment before being separated by security officials. Sterling’s teammate and fighter Merab Dvalishvili also had a hilarious moment when he wore O’Malley’s jacket during the face-off.

I’ve cut my teeth in this sport and in this division. What are we even talking about? I got the resume. So I don’t think Sean deserved the spot.” It took Sterling 14 fights to reach the bantamweight gold.
