“That’s a really big deal”- Chael Sonnen builds upon Khabib Nurmagomedov’s claim of coming back if Conor beats Islam

Chael Sonnen recently commented on a possibility of Khabib Nurmagomedov returning to fight Conor McGregor. The lightweight division has recently been through a lot of changes which has led the fans to be confused. First, before UFC 274, Charles Oliveira got stripped off the title and currently the lightweight championship has no owner.
Despite losing his title, Oliveira defeated Justin Gaethje and is now the number one contender for the title. After the win, the Brazilian called out Conor McGregor to stop running and fight him.
This call out put Islam Makhachev who is one of the deserving fighters of the title shot in a tough position. Makhachev is undefeated in his last 10 fights and has nobody else to fight. But Oliveira is not in favour of giving the Dagestani the chance as he lacks a good resume.
However, him calling out McGregor doesn’t make sense if the comparison in eligibility is done. But McGregor being the biggest draw in UFC, it’s obvious for Charles to call him out for that big fight purse.
Chael Sonnen comments on the potential Khabib Nurmagomedov’s return
In one of his recent videos on YouTube, Chael Sonnen claimed that the return of Khabib Nurmagomedov can change a lot of things in the lightweight division.
Sonnen explained that Nurmagomedov is strictly in the favour of McGregor vs Islam fight and is also ready to come back from retirement. According to Sonnen, Nurmagomedov said that if McGregor successfully beats Makhachev, then ‘The Eagle’ will come back. Nurmagomedov revealed that if ‘The Notorious’ needs any form of motivation then he is ready to fight McGregor.
“Khabib has said himself, it had to do with Conor vs. Islam, but Khabib went as far as to say to get his pupil this massive opportunity, he said ‘If these two fight and Conor beats Islam I will come out of retirement. I don’t believe Conor McGregor will fight Islam, so if Conor needs more motivation, if I am truly the thing that keeps himself up at night, I will insert myself to get the opportunity for Islam. If Islam is defeated I’ll come back and fight Conor.’ That’s a really big deal.”
The return of Nurmagomedov will certainly be one of the biggest events to take place. Although it is known that the fighter is true to his words, there is always a chance for someone to change his mind.
