“He’s mad at you all,” Chael Sonnen explains what motivated Charles Oliveira to take the Islam Makhachev fight
Chael Sonnen- Charles Oliveira
Charles Oliveira is coming from left and right throwing verbal jabs at his upcoming opponent in Islam Makhachev and Chael Sonnen might know the why of it. Sonnen is a multiple-time former UFC title challenger and also a semifinalist for one of Bellator MMA’s Heavyweight Grand Prix tournaments. Sonnen retired in 2019 and is now an avid Youtuber and a promoter. Sonnen is also the commentator for Eagle FC MMA and an analyst for ESPN MMA.
Oliveira is the former UFC lightweight champion who only lost his belt due to weighing half a pound more than the 155 lbs limit during the weigh-in for his last fight at UFC 274. Oliveira started his UFC career as a 20-year-old featherweight who wanted to make a statement in the 145 lbs division but eventually moved up to 155 lbs after which Oliveira’s career elevated to new levels. Oliveira today is known for his wins over the likes of Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje, Michael Chandler, Tony Ferguson, Jared Gordan, Kevin Lee, Jeremy Stephens, Jim Miller, Clay Guida and many more.
Charles Oliveira as a massive underdog can be the main reason for being hyped up as per Chael Sonnen
In one of the videos on his Youtube channel, Chael Sonnen talks about Charles Oliveira’s next fight against Islam Makhachev at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi on October 22, 2022. Sonnen talks about what triggers Oliveira to take the Makhachev fight and tone up a little aggressively in his recent interviews when talking about Makhachev.
“If I was to guess, Charles isn’t as mad as Islam as the tone, he is mad at you,” says Sonnen “He’s mad at you, the audience because he is currently a 3-1 underdog I think that bothers him… I don’t think Charles is as mad with Islam as the interviews would seem. I think he is annoyed with you”
Sonnen explains further that Oliveira is fed up with people still doubting him despite his resume filled with legendary wins inside the world’s top MMA organization. What do you make of Sonnen’s assumption of the reason for Oliveira’s seemingly upset presence in the media? Do you think he is right? Also, who do you think wins between Oliveira and Makhachev? Both Oliveira and Makhachev are elite grapplers but just from different backgrounds, this fight can be reminiscent of the legendary fight between Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock back in UFC 1.
