“You have to catch them” – Chael Sonnen exposes how fighters in 2022 are getting away with steroid usage
Chael Sonnen
Chael Sonnen might be retired from professional fighting but the former title contender is still paying close attention to the mixed martial arts game from distance.
Chael Sonnen retired from fighting and transitioned into the field of broadcasting and analysis. The fighter has been in the sport of mixed martial arts for a long time to know the nooks and corners of the sport. Sonnen recently on his YouTube channel dropped a video that talks about steroid usage among fighters in the year 2022.
Chael is also a fighter who is guilty of consuming steroids during his fighting days. “The American Gangster” tested positive for a high level of testosterone. Chael was banned from the sport for 1 year and also was forced to pay a fine. However, it has been a long time since Chael was caught for steroids. Testing methods have advanced tremendously and things have changed since Chael’s time as a fighter.
Sonnen believes despite the advancements in strict testing, the fighters of today’s age have figured out a way to use PEDs without being tested positive. “It’s a game with flawed psychology by the user of which I used to be,” said Sonnen in his YouTube video. “Which is, if it is not on the banned list, then it’s not banned. There is a technicality to that rule.”

Chael Sonnen says fighters have found a way to use steroids without testing positive
“If you get a chemist that could change one strand and create something new of which has not been identified by anybody…you see this is where it gets really interesting,” Chael hinted at how fighters have managed to use PED in this age. Chael says everyone has an idea of who is actually subjected to the use of steroids but it is very tough to catch them red-handed with tests.
The Athletic Commission has a list of steroids that are banned and termed illegal. However with the scientific advancements today, there are several ways to produce steroids that are hybrid and are not mainstream. “So the guys that are using, the guys that are failing drug tests, they are known but you’ve got to catch them,” said Sonnen in his video.
It is truly horrifying to think that fighters can get away with the usage of PEDs given the sport they are in. A fighter on steroids could easily inflict lifetime damage on a fighter that is not on PEDs. How do you think this can be stopped?
