Jake Paul x Dana White

Fair enough to say, Dana White has quite a number of people to speak highly of him, and quite a number of people to speak ill about him. Chael Sonnen comes in the former category and Jake Paul comes in the latter category. White is President of the UFC since 2001. From buying it with the help of the Fertitta brothers at worth $2 million to being sold to Endeavour Holdings at more than $4 billion dollars, surely White has brought the company on a long road.

Sonnen used to fight in the UFC from 2005 to 2016 and then from 2009 to 2013 and within a mere time of 4 years, made himself one of the most famous names in the company. Sonnen retired from MMA in 2019 after his last fight in Bellator MMA but still expresses his gratefulness to White in various interviews and most of his videos on his YouTube channel for how the latter carries the fight business to this day.

Paul is a Youtuber-cum-boxer who is undefeated with a record of 5-0 and his most notable wins include knockout victories over the likes of former world champions in MMA, Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren. Paul has criticized the UFC time and again for allegedly exploiting its fighters by paying them low. Not so long ago, White was therefore involved in a verbal back and forth with Jake Paul at one point in time.

Recently, Sonnen showed up to be the official presenter for the pre-fight press conference of a professional boxing match between Paul and Sonnen’s former rival in the UFC, Anderson Silva. Sonnen, therefore, also attended the post-event media scrum and, in an interview with The Mac Life, Sonnen talks about reacting to the way Paul speaks of White in a very ill manner.

“They have a thing… let them go have it,” says Sonnen. “I think Dana enjoys it, I don’t think he would ever admit it, I think Dana enjoys having somebody to come at him. Dana’s a fighter at heart. If there’s someone to fight with, I think he is happier that way. But do I feel a need to defend Dana at all times? Yeah, yeah, yes I do. I don’t love it when somebody puts him down,” says Sonnen.

What do you make of Sonnen giving a sort of permit to Paul to speak about White from his side of honesty? Where do you put Sonnen amongst the greatest trash talkers of all time in combat sports history? Who do you think wins between Paul and his next opponent in all-time UFC great, Anderson Silva? The fight is happening in Pheonix, Arizona, in Gila River Arena, formerly the home of WEC 53. The fight is happening on the date of October 29, 2022.
