“Doing out of respect,” Chael Sonnen makes his pick for UFC 275 main event, calls his prediction ‘unprofessional’
Chael Sonnen- Glover Teixeira vs Jiri Prochazka
Chael Sonnen has finally made his official prediction for the UFC light-heavyweight title fight between the champion Glover Teixeira and the challenger Jiri Prochazka. Sonnen is talking about the main event of UFC 275 which takes place tonight in Singapore, the first-ever Asian country to host numbered UFC PPV event. Besides that, UFC is already launching itself as a platform for more Asian fighters than the promotion has ever received before through its show titled Road To UFC.
The show is an exclusive opportunity for Asian fighters to secure a UFC contract. Talking about UFC 275, the main event is the aforementioned light-heavyweight title fight between Teixeira and Prochazka. The co-main event is a women’s flyweight title bout between the champion, the great Valentina Shevchenko and a promising prospect in Taila Santos. Former women’s strawweight champions Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Zhang Weili are going to fight each other in a rematch, long after delivering a spectacular first fight more than 2 years ago.
Chael Sonnen accepts his prediction method is weird, yet discloses it to the audience
On his Youtube channel, Sonnen uploaded a video about his prediction for the main event of UFC 275, which was not shocking, but his criteria to make his pick was a little unconventional to listen from someone who would analyse the position and skill set of both the fighters before picking the possible winner of a particular fight.
“Guys, I am taking Glover, I am taking it out of respect. You know what, that’s very unprofessional by me,” Sonnen says. “It’s really weird it’s very unprofessional but I am going to disclose it for you, that I am doing it out of respect,” continues Sonnen by complimenting Teixeira for how long he has been counted out yet for how long he still got it to remain at the top of the light-heavyweight division.
What do you make of Sonnen’s pick in favour of Teixeira based on the value of just respect? Have you picked Teixeira on the same basis, or do you rely on his skill set enough to beat Prochazka if one picks Teixeira to be the winner? Do you think Teixeira would stay in the division for long even being close to his mid-forties? Or is it time for fresh blood like Prochazka?
