“Jon Jones is taking 2 years for what he will do in a month,” Chael Sonnen puts respect on Rafael Dos Anjos’ competitive spirit

“Jon Jones is taking 2 years for what he will do in a month,” Chael Sonnen puts respect on Rafael Dos Anjos’ competitive spirit

Rafael Dos Anjos- Chael Sonnen

Rafael Dos Anjos has always fought the best of the best and Chael Sonnen can only keep on appreciating the Brazilian’s legacy for as long as he could through his massive platform. Dos Anjos, the former UFC lightweight champion has always been about fighting the toughest in the UFC for about 15 years now. A fighter for lightweight and welterweight, Dos Anjos is known for his wins over the likes of Benson Henderson, Anthony Pettis, Donald Cerrone, Nate Diaz, Renato Moicano, Robbie Lawler, Kevin Lee, Neil Magny, Paul Felder and many more.

Also under the same resume, though lost, Dos Anjos fought toe-to-toe against the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov, Kamaru Usman, Colby Covington, Eddie Alvarez, Tony Ferguson, Rafael Fiziev, Leon Edwards, Gleison Tibau, Jeremy Stephens and many more. Dos Anjos made his professional MMA debut in 2004 and entered the UFC in 2007. Now, recently, Dos Anjos declared that his final title run for the belt is over and is therefore looking forward to fighting legends such as Clay Guida, Jim Miller, Jorge Masvidal or even a rematch against Tony Ferguson would do well as a deal.

In one of the videos on his Youtube channel, Chael Sonnen reacts to Dos Anjos’ declaring the end of his final title run and his requests to get fights with MMA legends or rematches to avenge his previous losses. Sonnen talked so highly about the longtime UFC fighter that he went on to compare Dos Anjos against UFC light-heavyweight great Jon Jones based on a criterion where Dos Anjos exceeds Jones clearly, the willingness to not wait or say no and keep on fighting.

“Jon Jones took to 2 years before he go to heavyweight to adjust to the weight class… RDA [Dos Anjos] will go from 155 lbs to 170, he will do it in a month,” says Sonnen. “I mean not for nothing, RDA will do the same thing that Jon Jones is taking 2 years to even sign a contract to do, that’s a true statement. I have never seen a schedule, I have never seen a guy as willing…” continues Sonnen.

What do you make of RDA being praised by Sonnen? Do you agree with Sonnen on this one? Where do you put Dos Anjos amongst the most exciting fighters of all time? Who do you think Dos Anjos should fight next? Since both Dos Anjos and former interim-UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson are out of their prime time, the fight would be a huge opportunity for Dos Anjos to avenge one of his biggest losses and be a competitive battle for the fans to keep them on the edge of their seats.
