‘No one fits the criteria’- Chael Sonnen reacts to Mike Tyson’s advice to Conor McGregor, denies existence of easy fights for the Irishman

Chael Sonnen on Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor has been out of the sport for almost a year now. In his last fight against Dustin Poirier, McGregor broke his leg and lost the fight. It was McGregor’s third loss in his last four octagon appearances. Currently, the fighter has been showing signs of recovery and will most probably make his comeback at the end of the year. The speculations around his comeback is massive and everybody’s jumping into the conversation to share their opinions.

Recently while talking with Henry Cejudo, legendary boxer, Mike Tyson gave a suggestion to McGregor to take part in less competitive fights and get back his form. According to Tyson, McGregor should fight three fights before shooting his chances for the title opportunity. He said :

“He should do a couple of fights to get his feet wet, yes. Well, Conor I think you should build your confidence up and go do what you do, win excitingly….let him(McGregor) three fights that builds confidence back up. Every Fight, the opponent goes to a higher level.”

Although it is a good suggestion and might work for the fighter it’s not that easy to do. Former UFC superstar, Chael Sonnen had to say something similar to it.

Sonnen recently posted a new video on his official YouTube channel in which he reviewed the suggestion made by Tyson.

Sonnen revealed that the whole plan will not work in UFC and there is no fighter who will fit the requirements of that fight. Sonnen explained that any fight that includes McGregor will be a pay-per-view event and in that case, UFC will not take chances with a random fighter to fill that shoe. In the end, Sonnen claimed that it’s hard to see McGregor being in the UFC for three more fights.

“We don’t do that in MMA. There’s nobody within the ultimate fighting championship that would fit that criteria. Are there guys that are less difficult, sure there are. Is there anyone that’s an easy, off course not. Let alone it’s going to be in a marquee spot, a main event on a pay-per-view because Conor McGregor, no no no, it’s not gonna happen. I don’t know that you’re gonna get Conor three more times.” Said Sonnen.

McGregor is infamous for his inactivity and given his record it’s hard to imagine him fighting with someone who is not a superstar like him. On the top of that, the fight fans will also want to see the ‘Notorious’ fight another huge superstar.
