“No one else for Conor McGregor to fight”- Chael Sonnen reveals the Irishman’s most likely opponent at 170lbs

Chael Sonnen- Conor McGregor
UFC megastar Conor McGregor has kept the entire MMA community guessing who he will be booked to return against inside the Octagon, the guessing game is also anticipated by MMA Legend Chael Sonnen. McGregor went on a layoff due to his injury occurring in his last fight against Dustin Poirier in UFC 264– a fracture in the shin bone. Resulting in a loss for McGregor, the former 2-division champion has since been on a mission to quick recovery and return to full-scale MMA training.

So far, McGregor has made progress by finishing his recovery post the shin bone surgery and now spars in boxing as well. McGregor in his last interview has expressed interest in fighting for a potential third weight class title in his legacy. This means that McGregor would want to return against the current welterweight champion and pound for pound king Kamaru Usman, but it’s not sure if the UFC is in to make that fight.
Chael Sonnen wonders if Kamaru Usman is free to welcome back Conor McGregor

Chael Sonnen on his Youtube channel reacts to an underground rumour that McGregor might return to the Octagon in August and this had Sonnen figuring out who would be suitable for McGregor’s comeback fight. “There’s no one else for Conor to fight at 170 that would make a level of sense,” says Sonnen “If you don’t think it makes sense that Conor who is a 55-pounder moves up to 170 off 2 losses and gets a title fight, Fine! It would still make more sense than putting Conor your biggest draw to 170 and putting him with a top 10 guy in the division to get him a step closer…
The only way Conor is going to fight at 170 in a match that is not a title fight is if you bring up another 155 pounder and you attempt to duplicate it which in all fairness none of us will complain,” concludes Sonnen. Sonnen keeps on asking the viewers a question repeatedly in reference to the underground rumour that McGregor is coming back in August and that is “What’s Kamaru doing in August?”
Well, back in UFC London, #2 ranked welterweight Leon Edwards has been awarded his title fight against Usman and the fight is most likely going to happen during International Fight Week. However, McGregor can fight a lot of lightweights that would be willing to jump into welterweight just because of the weight that McGregor carries as a megastar. Michael Chandler is one of them, only if Chandler gets past his UFC 274 opponent Tony Ferguson. Who do you think McGregor should return against inside the octagon?
