“More likely than Diaz vs Masvidal 2,” Chael Sonnen reveals most potential opponents for Jorge Masvidal’s next fight

“More likely than Diaz vs Masvidal 2,” Chael Sonnen reveals most potential opponents for Jorge Masvidal’s next fight

Chael Sonnen- Jorge Masvidal

If UFC megastar Jorge Masvidal is solely looking for super fights, MMA Legend Chael Sonnen has just dismissed those aspirations from the UFC’s perspective. Masvidal, 37, was last seen in an unfortunate position losing a unanimous decision to a former friend turned bitter foe, Colby Covington, in the main event of UFC 272. Masvidal is now looking forward to first getting cleared of the assault allegations put on by Covington on the occasion of the former confronting the latter back in March 2022 outside a restaurant in Miami, Florida.

Following that, Masvidal has been on a back and forth of respectful and disrespectful callouts on Twitter. The respectful ones include the names of those who called him out recently such as #4 ranked welterweight Gilbert Burns and those who have been calling him out for some time such as Stephen Thompson. The disrespectful ones come from the likes of fellow UFC megastar Conor McGregor, with Masvidal being the one to initiate the callout, as the latter also did against another UFC megastar in Nate Diaz for a rematch.

Chael Sonnen believes that the winner of Masvidal’s fights should have a vision to ‘move on’ clearly for the next fights

Chael Sonnen took to his Youtube channel to upload a video in which he suspects Masvidal going down the ‘wrong road’ in his career for his future and if his callouts are at ‘high risk’ from the UFC’s standpoint, considering it’s difficult to steer the future of the winner of a superfight like a rematch between Masvidal and Diaz, then who are the most feasible options for someone like Masvidal who is also looking forward to getting one final title shot in his career before he hangs his gloves for good.

“As much as you want to see Diaz vs Masvidal… there’s a fight I’m predicting, I think you’re more likely to see, [Vicente] Luque vs Masvidal. I think that’s the path and the trajectory. I think that Masvidal vs Gilbert Burns. That is something that the winner could visibly and clearly move on…” says Sonnen.

What do you make of Sonnen’s prediction? Do you think he is right? Who do you think are Masvidal’s most likeable fights? Do you want him to keep pitching in favour of the superfights such as the one between him and McGregor or the one between him and Diaz, or should he keep looking for opponents of top 10 status like Vicente Luque and Gilbert Burns to put him somewhere after the fight, only if he wins?
