“Goin’ to face Islam Makhachev”- Charles Oliveira confirms his title fight against Islam Makhachev at UFC 280

Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev

Charles Oliveira is no longer the UFC lightweight champion as a result of his failure to reach weight prior to UFC 274 last month, but it is expected that he will challenge for the title once more in his following bout. If Oliveira had his way, Conor McGregor would face him for the vacant championship. In the lightweight division of the UFC, Makhachev is 10-1 and on a 10-fight winning run. He TKO’d Bobby Green in a last-minute catchweight battle this year. Last year, he submitted Drew Dober, Thiago Moises, and Dan Hooker.

When asked about Islam, Olivera stated, “I’ve never ran from a fight and the lightweight champion is called Charles Oliveira. Is Islam a very tough guy? Yep. Did he fight big names? No. He’s on a big streak, but who did he fight?”

On October 22 at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, two of the best grapplers in the UFC, Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev, will square off for the lightweight championship. Despite not having signed, Makhachev’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, claimed that he had verbally agreed to the terms. The former champion Oliveira, who lost his title to Conor McGregor at UFC 274 on May 6 because he didn’t make weight, posted an emoji of a pen on Twitter on Saturday, signalling that he had signed.

Apart from a single defeat in October 2015, the protege of UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov has been dominant, defeating opponents like Bobby Green, Dan Hooker, Arman Tsarukyan, and Gleison Tibau. While Charles was forced to give up the belt after failing to make weight for his scheduled championship defence against Justin Gaethje at UFC 274 earlier this year. He then submitted Gaethje, and UFC president Dana White made good on a promise to include him in the following title match.
