Everybody in the UFC wants to fight Conor McGregor. Former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira became the latest one to express the desire to face the Irishman indirectly. The Brazilian is on his quest to get back the UFC lightweight title. However, before that, the fighter wants to share the octagon with McGregor.
Recently, Charles Oliveira’s coach, Diego Lima, spoke to MMA Fighting. In the interview, Lima mentioned his preference for Oliveira fighting Conor McGregor rather than Islam Makhachev for the title fight. Further, Lima praised McGregor for his impact.
It would be great to fight McGregor.…Look at the records he breaks. It's incredible what McGregor does. So, a fight with him would be incredible.... If we had the opportunity to fight McGregor at welterweight after this fight, we would fight McGregor. But how about the belt? Ok, we'll fight for the belt after that.Diego Lima via MMA Fighting YT
After his defeat against Islam Makhachev, ‘Do Bronx’ didn’t rush to come back and took his time. Currently, the fighter is scheduled to fight Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300. With an impressive three-fight win streak, Tsarukyan is expected to deliver a formidable challenge to Oliveira. If he fails to defeat Tsarukyan or not, there is a chance the UFC might book McGregor vs. Oliveira in the future.
McGregor still has the spotlight as UFC’s top draw despite years away from the sport. As his comeback nears, competitors eagerly indicated interest in the opportunity to secure a lucrative fight purse against him. Only time will tell if the dream fight between ‘The Notorious’ and ‘Do Bronx’ happens or not.
Charles Oliveira once warned Conor McGregor to stop running and accept the fight
It’s not the first time Charles Oliveira has shown his interest in fighting Conor McGregor. At UFC 274, Oliveira fought Justin Gaethje in the main event. In the fight, Oliveira submitted Gaethje and successfully made his second title defense.
After the fight, the Brazilian shocked everyone by calling out Conor McGregor for a title fight. Oliveira asked Dana White to give him anybody, including McGregor.
Dana White, you can put anyone in front of me. I’m not going to choose. Hey, Conor McGregor. Are you coming up? Or are you going to run away?”Charles Oliveira via UFC 274 octagon interview
McGregor quickly replied and mentioned that he had gained weight and would like to fight at welterweight. However, the fighter also liked the idea of fighting another Brazilian just like he did against Jose Aldo. After that, both fighters had a back-and-forth, which continued for some time but never developed into anything concrete.
