The most awaited event of the year was nothing short of what was expected, as against all the odds Islam Makachev grabbed a tremendous win against Charles ‘Do Bronx’ Oliviera to become the new champion of the Lightweight division.

Makachev submitted the former champion successfully in round 2 after taking him down with a marvelous strike and then securing an arm triangle choke. Post-match, the former champ spoke to the reporters of UFC about the match and his future in the sport. On being asked about his future and his aspirations for getting back the title, Oliviera said, “We are going to turn the things around and this belt is going to be mine again.”

The Brazilian expressed that he will keep putting in the hard work and determination like he always has and get back the belt that belongs to him. The former champion most definitely is not short on confidence as Charles still thinks himself to be the number one contender and is ready to fight anyone the UFC gives him and ultimately challenge for the title.

Just after the fight, the cameras catch Khabib coming inside the Octagon and exchanging a few words with the former champion. When asked about the same by a reporter in the post-match interview, Oliveira said, “He came up to me and just basically said that everything was just promoting the fight. He had respect for me and he is a great champion.”

Oliveira added. “He was basically saying was that he respects me and it was all part of the game.” With his phenomenal 11-win streak coming to an end, the sorcerer of submissions now will surely be looking forward to working his way back to the top again and becoming the first-ever two-time lightweight champion.

Islam would most probably defend his belt against the featherweight king, Alexander Volkanovski, and Oliveira would have to wait until the dust settles.
