“Makhachev has to fight Dariush first”- Charles Oliveira isn’t sold on the idea of Islam Makhachev getting a title shot
Charles Oliveira and Islam makhachev
The MMA world is now backing up Islam Makhachev to fight against Charles Oliveira and Dana White is at the top of that list. Oliveira just came off a spectacular victory over another lethal striker in Justin Gaethje at UFC 274 via first-round submission.
Unfortunately for him, Oliveira just lost his belt due to missing the championship weight during weigh-ins by just 0.5 lbs. But regardless, Oliveira’s next fight is definitely going to be a title bout. Regarding Islam Makhachev’s situation, he was supposed to fight Beneil Dariush to decide who is the number 1 contender who deserves to be next in line.
Makhachev is on a 9-fight winning streak and Oliveira is on an 11-fight winning streak. Now, the way things turned over by stripping Oliveira of the championship, it all makes sense that Makhachev fights Oliveira because Makhachev has a longer winning streak than Dariush and is ranked above him as well.
While some want to see those compete against each other, others want an immediate title shot for Islam. Khabib Nurmagomedov, Daniel Cormier, and Joe Rogan are some of the guys who don’t want him to take another fight before he gets a title shot.

“It will be a great fight”- Charles Oliveira is really looking forward to the lightweight contest between Islam Makhachev and Beneil Dariush
Former undisputed champ, Charles Oliveira was asked to present his views on the situation in an interview with MMA Fighting, and he believes Islam still needs to prove its worth. He said, “I think the reality is, Makhachev has to fight Dariush first. They both have to fight and then we’ll see who we’re fighting or not. Makhachev is super tough and deserves all the respect in the world.”
He added, “Dariush is also super tough and has a great team. It will be a great fight, so let them fight first and see what will happen down the line. Like I said, my focus now is going home and getting some rest, and my team will see who we’re fighting. I’ve never ran from a fight and never will. I’ll be there and I’ll be ready whoever they put in there with me.”
He also wished that his next fight would take place in Brazil and he is confident Dana White would make that happen, “I’ve asked to fight in December. I deserve this. The Brazilian people deserve this. We deserve this, for this fight to be in Brazil. If it’s Sao Paulo, that’s 100 percent. But I would really like this fight to be in Brazil.”
