The former lightweight champ Charles Oliveira is not one to engage in pre-fight trash talk. But ‘Do Bronx’ does not take it lying down, either. He meets rising contender Arman Tsarukyan at the historic UFC 300 card next. The clash holds extra merit as it has #1 contender implications with Islam Makhachev‘s gold in mind.

As such, rising star Tsarukyan isn’t shying away from hard blows at the rival. He has already labeled Charles Oliveira to be one-dimensional. 155-pound contender Beneil Dariush has lost to both Oliveira and Tsarukyan. Dariush felt Oliveira tends to shine in the later rounds. On the other hand, Oliveira warned rivals, including Tsarukyan, about running their mouth by citing his resume.

People say what they want, right? If I only have that, and I have 16 submissions on my [UFC] record... I guess they were all from the back, right? And I guess the knockouts I have weren’t knockouts... they were submissions. It’s too much bullsh*t they talk. It was said that I’m a quitter...He doesn’t know how bad I want to become champion again....

Oliveira fired back at his rivals in a conversation with Brazilian MMA journo Guilherme Cruz of the Trocação Franca Podcast. Charles Olveira’s sneers come at the instigation that he just choked opponents from the back. While usually of a milder demeanor, Oliveira did not take kindly to this. He probably shouldn’t, as the fighter is quite the BJJ practitioner.

However, not all his wins come from submissions. As epic as they are, he has a record for most divisional finish wins. The fighter’s standup game is equally notorious, as are his submissions. Hence, Oliveira voices a surefire resolve to snatch back the gold after UFC 300.

Unlike Arman Tsarukyan, his coach sees Charles Oliveira as a bigger all-around threat

The sentence reads as right as it should. Charles Oliveira happens to be the thorn in sight for Arman Tsarukyan’s title aspirations. He faces Olivera at UFC 300 on April 13 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, which the promotion has labeled a No. #1 contender fight. Whoever wins will earn their rematch with lightweight king Islam Makhachev.

However, coach and cornerman Marcos “Parrumpa” DaMatta thinks the Brazilian holds more mettle than the Dagestani. Speaking to MMA Junkie‘s Mike Bohn, the ATT (American Top Team) coach said that Oliveira was good at both striking and submissions. For DaMatta, it makes ‘Do Bronx’ a more dangerous opponent for Arman Tsarukyan.

We don’t have a title shot, yes, but we have a legend... A guy [Oliveira]  that’s in my opinion more dangerous than Islam, because he’s dangerous everywhere... He’s a good striker, he’s an amazing jiu-jitsu guy. In my opinion, he’s probably the best finisher in UFC history...ahead of Royce (Gracie), ahead of Demian (Maia). So, we respect him a lot....

Oliveira boasts domination over UFC’s all-time submission finishes. Not only that, but he also is quite adept at it. Hence, DaMatta thought Arman ought to have a standout performance to last and overcome this bout. However, he trusts Tsarukyan’s will to get the job done. Come UFC 300, only time will tell who comes out on top; quite literally, maybe.
