UFC veteran and former champion Chris Weidman returns at UFC 292 after a 2 year long recovery period. Weidman returns from a horrific injury that could have ended his career in MMA. He faces Brad Tavares in a three-round fight for his return. Weidman joked about his injury and told his opponent not to check the first leg kick thrown by him during the press conference.
The injury faced by Weidman was truly horrific but he has taken a positive approach to it. A reporter asked Tavares during the press conference if he thinks Weidman will hesitate to throw the first kick. Tavares redirected the question to his opponent. Weidman replied, “As long as you don’t check the first one, you gotta let me get one in one you please. No shin, no knee and we’re cool”. The veteran also agreed to let his opponent “take one on him”.
Even though Tavares agreed to let his opponent get the first kick Weidman will think twice before throwing any hard shots. Weidman faced a potentially career-ending injury when he faced Uriah Hall at UFC 261. He threw the first kick which was checked by Hall. The kick snapped his own tibia and fibula bone resulting in his leg break. It was certain that Weidman would not return but he defied all odds to make his comeback.
Weidman being a veteran and a former champion also spoke about his disappointment about not being on the main card. Even though the All-American is not on the main card fans will expect an electrifying fight. Fans will look forward to seeing Weidman back in the cage.
