Rivalries in the UFC are an essential part of the fight game. It builds hype around the fight and riles up emotions. As such, the animosity between welterweights Colby Covington and Ian Garry is well documented. Covington recently answered Garry and accepted his callout.  But he wanted three things before that fight could happen. 

Colby Covington unleashed his brash personality in a recent video. He made it clear that Garry would need to meet his demands. The stipulations revolved around Garry and his wife. The drama surrounding Garry’s wife last year propelled these stipulations.

Everyone knows what’s in it for you, Ian, but what’s in it for me? Why do I have to go down in the rankings and fight some Casper-The-Ghost-looking Irish kid who has a gold-digging wife? Let’s come to a compromise. If you can meet these three stipulations, we have a fight.

The first stipulation required Ian Garry and his wife to turn their Instagram comments back on. Secondly, Covington demanded that Garry’s wife Layla had 60 seconds to convince Covington that this fight needed to happen. The final stipulation involved Garry’s wife agreeing to stand next to Covington to make a video while Garry watched after Covington beat him.

Covington last suffered a unanimous decision loss to Leon Edwards in December. He remains a highly-ranked contender in the stacked welterweight division. Garry on the other hand is coming off a split decision win over Geoff Neal. The fight between these two brash personalities could very well become one of the most anticipated fights of the year.

Ian Garry intensified his pursuit of a high-profile clash with Colby Covington. The undefeated 26-year-old confidently declared himself as the biggest name Covington could face next. He believed that there was no bigger paycheck for Covington than to fight him.

Garry expressed his belief that Covington would avoid top contenders like Kamaru Usman, Shavkat Rakhmonov, and Belal Muhammad. He deemed them unfavorable matchups for the outspoken American. The Irishman proposed a potential main event clash in Ireland or a co-main event slot alongside Conor McGregor’s anticipated return against Michael Chandler. He expressed confidence in his ability to finish Covington.

Garry further emphasized his desire to test himself against Covington’s elite wrestling pedigree. The rising star’s bold claims and unwavering confidence have undoubtedly added intrigue to a potential showdown between the two rivals. Garry’s pursuit of this matchup may very well line up, given that Covington’s now accepted the callout.
