Fighter Leon “Rocky” Edwards will defend his welterweight title when he takes on Colby Covington at UFC 296 on December 16th in Las Vegas. Meantime, flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja will take on Brandon Royval in the co-main event. The fight card was announced very recently, along with others. In the pound-for-pound rankings, ESPN has Edwards at #4 in the world. and #1 at welterweight, with Covington unranked due to inactivity. However, CEO Dana White has cued his preference as Covington being best in the division.
Edwards is one of the main rivals of Colby Covington in the current welterweight division of the UFC. As with several of his fellow 170lbers, Covington has used two nicknames when discussing Edwards in the media. One such moniker was “Leon Scott”. In a recent interview with Michael Bisping, mentioning another such mislabelling Covington had said:
Honestly, I haven't watched any of his fights. I didn't even know he existed. I mean I know they call him Edward Scissorhands - because he likes to poke people in fights and he hasn't won a legitimate fight...

The interview in question was when Bisping sat down with Covington, ahead of his fight against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272. Back in 2021, Edwards inadvertently poked Belal Muhammad in the right eye. This was in the second round of the main event of UFC Fight Night and resulted in a no-contest turnover. Covington had allured to that right on cue.
This, correspondingly was not the only diss he took at the fighter. He had called him “Edward Scissorhands” before as well when Edwards had expressed his wish to fight Nate Diaz.
