‘You’re comparing nonsense to historical events’ – Colby Covington stirs ‘political’ war of words between Britain and America after Leon Edwards turns down title shot

Colby Covington has Ian once again caught up in the middle of a controversy due to his recent tweet. With Chaos playing the bad guy of the UFC, controversial tweets and statements are just another Monday. With his recent tweet, Colby targeted Leon Edwards for not wanting to give him a title shot. While the trash talk was normal, Colby comparing his situation to historical events is what sparked the controversy.

Colby Covington made a surprising appearance as the backup fighter for Usman vs Edwards 3 at UFC 286. Leon Edwards won the match via a split decision and successfully defended his welterweight title. After the event, Dana White declared Colby Covington to fight Edwards next for the title. Leon Edwards however seemed very displeased with this decision due to Covington’s inactivity for over a year. Edwards also issued that he won’t fight Colby as there are more deserving fighters in the division. With this started a saga of Colby blasting Edwards for not agreeing to fight.

Colby with his recent tweet compared his situation with U.S.A.’s freedom fight against the British. “Don’t want to give me a title shot mumble mouth? I recall the British not wanting to give Americans our freedom either… So we took it. See you in July junior.” read the tweet. Colby received severe backlash from the people of Twitter for comparing his idiotic situation with history.

Many of his fans aware of his bad guy character tweeted “I wish you wouldn’t do this character any more.” While his hardcore fans support Covington the general consensus is different. Colby Covington is the next in line for the welterweight title as declared by Dana White. Edwards can’t avoid the fight however hard he tries and will have to fight the bad guy around this year.

Fans react to Colby Covington comparing American Freedom struggle with his situation in recent tweet

Colby Covington is the next in line and the number one contender for the welterweight gold. Dana White recently suggested the fight maybe targeted for July in London, Leon’s home ground. However, Edwards is pretty hesitant about fighting Covington as he believes there are fighters with better resumes in the division.

Covington has since then issued tweets and statements blasting Leon Edwards for his actions. With his recent tweet, Colby compared his situation with the American freedom struggle against the British. His tweet since then has caused controversy among his fans as they take to Twitter and express their disgust with Covington.

American actor and comedian Michael Rapaport has also called Covington a joke in response to his tweets. Many fans ask Covington to end his gimmick while others simply find the tweet amusing. Covington is known to sell his fights with outrageous statements. This has landed him in trouble a lot of times. But whatever the case, Leon Edwards will have to fight Colby Covington for his next title defense.
