The feud between Colby Covington and Ian Garry has become one of the most talked about topics in MMA. UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier became the latest personality to talk about the brewing welterweight rivalry. It all happened in the lead-up to UFC 296. Covington brutally attacked Garry and his wife. Since then, Garry has fired back at Covington multiple times to warrant a future matchup between them.

Daniel Cormier recently addressed the viral Colby Covington and Ian Garry feud on his YouTube channel. He believed Ian Garry was a dangerous opponent for Colby Covington. Moreover, Cormier believed the beef progressed to such a point that Covington had no option but to fight Garry. 

It just seems like it's a match made in heaven... There's always a fight to be made... I believe we're at a point now where Colby's got to fight him. Colby's got to stand up on his words now and go fight that man.

Covington last fought for the title against Leon Edwards at UFC 296. It was Colby’s third shot at the undisputed title. Another title shot for ‘Chaos’ remains unlikely at the moment. However, DC believed a win over a young and dangerous contender like Garry could help Covington return to the title picture. As such, DC wanted Covington to fight the Irish star.

As of now, Covington is healing from the leg injury he claimed he suffered during the UFC 296 title bout. Hence, the UFC has not decided to book Covington vs. Garry. However, once Covington heals from the injury, the former interim champion will be pressured to fight Garry. As such, Daniel Cormier believed the fight must happen at all costs as Covington’s reputation was on the line due to his trash talks.

Multiple reasons exist for Ian Garry to fight Colby Covington

Colby Covington has made some serious remarks about Ian Garry and wife, Layla Anna-Lee. On multiple occasions, ‘Chaos’ alluded to the alleged c**k behavior of Garry as well as the gold digger accusations on Layla.

Garry told MMA Fighting that he wanted to fight Covington because of everything he said about him and his family. The Irishman said he wanted to make sure that Covington regretted every word he ever said. Ian Garry expects to dominate Covington and claims he stood no chance against him. The rankings also hold merit and not just personal animosity.

As of now, Belal Muhammad and Shavkat Rakhmonov have a claim to challenge for the title. If Garry defeats Covington, he enters the title picture and remains just a win away from challenging for the welterweight gold. As such, the Irishman stands to benefit from fighting someone high-profile like Covington. It would give him a win over a welterweight legend and put him close to a superstar status. Only time will tell if and when the bout happens.
