Hollywood’s highest-paid debutante, Conor McGregor, is now part of yet another feat. This time, his feat also comes beyond the scope of fighting. The former two-division champ recently starred in the Road House movie – a remake of the 1989 cult classic starring Patrick Swayze. Starring alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, the action flick attained a new record, as understood by McGregor’s social media handle.
Taking to his X account, he has reposted a handful of snippets. Putting Hollywood on alert with his acting debut shocker, the Irishman had everybody on alert. Many believed ‘OG’ Roadhouse star Marshall Teague‘s diss on the action sequences, plus the mixed fan reaction, might have hurt the film. However, ‘The Notorious’ claimed overwhelming success.
Congrats to @amazonstudios and @mgmstudios on their @roadhousemovie becoming their most watched movie of all time! 50 million viewers over two weekends. That’s $750m at the box office. In10 days! Insane! Congrats all the team, it was a pleasure...Conor McGregor via X (@TheNotoriousMMA)
Doug Liman directed Road House. JJ Hook, Alison Winter, Aaron Auch, and Paradigm Sports founder Audie Attar were on the production team. After ten days, the 1989 reboot has garnered a 59% Critics and a 55% Audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. With a global IMDb rating of 6.2/10, it also boasts the #5 spot on MMA Junkie’s list of The best (and worst!) MMA movies of all time
Perceptions have morphed for the better since then. The fight community has sounded off on his performance in the film, which is comedically entertaining. While the film might not boast critical acclamation, it has won the hearts of many. The 50 million worldwide viewers have impacted the stock of McGregor in Hollywood. Only time will tell if the Irishman continues to get offers from Hollywood.
Road House 2024 – Facts, Figures, Trivia; all you need to know about Conor McGregor’s new role
No Spoilers.
Well, one thing has to be spoiled – Conor McGregor’s role in Road House is one for the ages. In no way is it comparable to more critical heavyweights in cinema history. But it is what is; an action film remake that lives up to its hype. With the 22-6 Former champ in tow, it has a UFC connection, where Jake Gyllenhaal plays a washed-up/outcast fighter “Edward Dalton.”
Live scenes were filmed at the UFC 285 ceremonial weigh-in at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Dana White, play-by-play announcer Jon Anik, and even Bruce Buffer were present for flashback montages of “Dalton.”
Gyllenhaal’s “Donnie Darko” castmate Swayze starred in the original. Both get enlisted as a bouncer at a raucous Florida Keys roadhouse. Conor McGregor’s “Knox” plays one of the antagonists, more of a know-all & fix-it guy for the criminal elite.
Owen Gleiberman of Variety.com has positive notions for it. He states the new one is uncannily like a high-octane Jason Statham flick. Some have critiqued the excess use of CGI in somewhat of a “pointless remake.” However, a majority of the MMA community has lauded McGregor. The Irishman playing something similar to his obnoxiously brash octagon moniker has delighted fans.
