Conor McGregor has associated himself with both rugby and betting. McGregor made headlines when he delivered a “war cry” on behalf of Ireland’s rugby stars before the World Cup battle against New Zealand. The Irish superstar showed his support for the Irish rugby team on X. However, Conor McGregor was not the only UFC star who bet on the upcoming rugby World Cup. Former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya made a similar bet in favor of his country.
While Conor McGregor is primarily famous for his career in mixed martial arts, he has also dived into the world of betting. In 2017, he signed an 18-month endorsement deal with the online bookmaker Betsafe, becoming their official ambassador. McGregor took to X ( formerly known as Twitter ) to declare Ireland’s fearlessness in the upcoming match against New Zealand. He wrote, ” Dear @Allblacks, the only black stuff that scares our lads are shite pints and there’s none to be found.”
Former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya was not going to hold back either. Israel Adesanya recently placed a significant bet on the Ireland vs. New Zealand Rugby World Cup quarter-final match. Adesanya made headlines for spending a staggering amount on this rugby match. Fans compared the wagers made by rapper Drake, his close friend.
Drake has a history of making large wagers on sports events, although his bets haven’t always been successful. The exact amount of the bet made by Adesanya was reported to be $20,000. This was a substantial sum that garnered attention and puzzled fans. The bet by Israel Adesanya generated considerable buzz. It remains to be seen whether Adesanya’s wager will be successful.
Conor McGregor is back in the USADA testing pool; but not for long
Conor McGregor has re-enlisted in the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) drug-testing pool. The prospect of McGregor’s return has been a topic of speculation for over a year, with teases from both McGregor and UFC CEO Dana White.
However, this eventful news coincided with the forthcoming separation of the UFC from USADA, effective from January 2024. This development unfolds after prolonged uncertainty surrounding McGregor’s potential return to the octagon. USADA’s CEO, Travis Tygart, conveyed their unwavering stance to the UFC, insisting on adherence to the requirement.
They revealed that McGregor must provide two negative test results and remain in the pool for at least six months before any exemptions are considered. The rules also allow extending an athlete’s time in the testing pool based on initial declarations and subsequent test outcomes. Regrettably, whether the UFC will comply with the six-month prerequisite or any potential extensions is unclear.
