Diaz was originally scheduled to fight Khamzat Chimaev although last-minute changes were made due to Chimaev’s not being able to make contractual weight. Diaz took on former Interim champion Tony Ferguson in the main event.

Although the fight was back and forth between the two with Diaz using his slick boxing and Tony chopping off the legs of his opponent. The fight ended after a failed takedown attempt made by El Cucuy was later turned into a Guillotine choke by the Stockton Star.

In his post-fight octagon interview with Joe Rogan, Diaz stated his intentions to take a break from MMA and pursue other sports. He then went to take a jibe at his rival McGregor for his loss in his boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather.

Cause Conor McGregor didn’t know how to do it. None of these other fighters know how to do it.”

“So I’m going to go out there and I’m going take over another profession and become the best at that. Show everybody I’m the best at that and then I’m going to be right the f*** back here to get a motherf****** UFC title. The best title in the world.” He added.

I’d have sawed Tony in half. 2 ham ball heads. Respect the king.”
