Conor McGregor will go down as the most iconic superstar in MMA history. He transcended the sport of MMA to a new level and lifted the sport to a global level. The Netflix documentary of McGregor’s journey, titled McGregor Forever released on 17 May. The documentary brought crucial information to the claims made by McGregor after his fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The footage shows Conor McGregor getting taken down during a sparring session. McGregor halts the sparring on the ground to reveal the pain in his thumb. He cannot walk on two feet, and his trainer comes to check on him. McGregor’s face looks worried, and the trainer fixed the issue. However, McGregor said, “It feels alright. It feels like couple of toes. I f**ked them up nine days before the fight.“
After losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018, McGregor claimed he injured his foot before the fight. However, detractors called it an excuse. With the documentary’s release, more details emerged about the nature of the injury. McGregor said, “My foot was a balloon,” indicating the compromised nature of his feet after his loss.
Khabib outclassed McGregor for the majority of their bout at UFC 229. McGregor could not get back up to his feet after being taken down. Khabib took McGregor down for the third time in round four and submitted him via neck crank.

McGregor wanted to rematch Khabib after losing to him at UFC 229. However, there were many obstacles to the rematch. Khabib faced other contenders like Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje in 2019 and 2020. There was also a canceled bout with Tony Ferguson.
After his father’s death, Khabib retired from MMA at UFC 254. The Netflix documentary about McGregor’s story revealed how the Irishman reacted to Khabib’s retirement. He said, “He’s had retirement on his mind. He didn’t really want to be in there. It is what it is.“
The documentary is available on Netflix. It shows the journey of Conor into the superstar he is today. McGregor always wanted to rematch Khabib. However, Khabib could not continue fighting after the death of his father.
