Conor McGregor became one of the most successful athletes ever due to his performance inside and outside the octagon. McGregor became the highest-paid MMA athlete ever in the UFC as he became a double champion. Soon after, the Irishman made huge amounts of money with his professional boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather. The success of his boxing debut made him start a business venture, Proper 12 Whiskey.

McGregor recently did an interview with GQ Sports on YouTube, where he revealed how Proper 12 Whiskey came into existence. This is what McGregor said.

I had offers to do adverts and things like that with other whiskey companies; I refused the money...I wanted to learn more about the process of how it is made. And I went sourcing for where I would make my whiskey and I sourced a distillery in Ireland, which is the oldest distillery in Ireland and the largest distillery in Ireland. And I hired out a part of that distillery and began making my own whiskey, Proper Number Twelve.

McGregor’s inspiration for the venture came from his grandfather. According to McGregor, his grandfather made him instill the belief that the Irish are best in the Whiskey business. McGregor’s former best friend Artem Lobov also had some input in the business venture. However, McGregor did not reference Lobov as the Russian fighter sued McGregor.
