Conor McGregor recently took to Twitter and briefly shared news about his long-awaited return to the UFC. The UFC star hinted at a potential comeback in December. However, the tweet mysteriously disappeared, leaving fans in suspense. They are left wondering when exactly could they expect to see the Irish superstar back in action.
The announcement raised some eyebrows because McGregor is currently undergoing a mandatory six-month period of clean drug testing. This is required by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for fighters returning from suspensions or extended breaks. Despite this requirement, UFC President Dana White seems aloof about USADA’s decision on the matter.
Each year UFC makes a significant financial investment in USADA. It is a huge amount totaling nearly $7 million per year. Conor McGregor holds the record for the biggest pay-per-view draw in the promotion’s history. McGregor’s fights produce a sizable amount of money from ticket sales, which, in the perfect setting, can bring in eight figures for the promotion. In reply to a fan’s tweet, Conor marked December as when he would return to the UFC but soon after deleted the tweet.
The potential loss of booking McGregor would far outweigh the cost of complying with the drug testing regulations. Thus analysts and fans hope to see the champion back in the cage although there are still doubts as to when. This is why McGregor’s sudden illusive declaration created such an upheaval in the MMA community.
Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler: Return of the Irish superstar
McGregor has been absent from the Octagon since his devastating leg injury at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier. This was back in 2021. In the meantime, fans caught glimpses of McGregor as he took on the role of head coach on ESPN’s The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 31. This was his second installment in the series and he was up against none other than Michael Chandler.
Chandler strongly believes that McGregor underestimates him. He boldly stated, “He believes that he’s a little bit too spicy, a little bit too dicey. I said I’m going to bludgeon him with my hands.” Chandler went on to share his prediction of a second-round knockout, emphasizing his intention to apply unrelenting pressure from the start, gradually wearing McGregor down until he ultimately delivers the finishing blow.
As the world anxiously awaits the official announcement of McGregor’s return date, excitement is building for the potential showdown with Michael Chandler. The outcome of this highly anticipated fight remains uncertain, but one thing is certain: when McGregor finally steps back into the Octagon, all eyes will be on him, expecting nothing less than an extraordinary display of skill and entertainment.
