In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Conor McGregor has come out with bombshell information about TUF 31. He says it was supposed to be Nate Diaz, not Michael Chandler as the opposing coach. This is certainly huge because it appears UFC was planning a trilogy bout between McGregor and Diaz before Diaz left the company.

McGregor said, “It was originally to be me versus Nate. So, I didn’t mind who it was against, to be honest, nor do I mind who I compete against. That’s widely known. I had agreed to it with Nate, it was a day or two before, and now it’s Michael Chandler. I’m not sure what went down on that end, but it was me versus Chandler, and that’s it. I have no problem with him. I’m happy with it.”

Nate Diaz recently defeated Tony Ferguson by submission in the fourth round at UFC 279. Following the fight, Diaz completed his UFC contract and left the company to test himself in the Free Agency. So far, Diaz has not revealed anything about his future.

Unfortunately for the fight fans, a TUF season with Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor did not materialise. Everyone is hoping the trilogy happens sometime in the future. But in the meantime, Conor McGregor is gearing up for a return later this year against Michael Chandler.

Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz have one victory against each other. Ideally, they should have a third bout to see who comes out as the winner of the rivalry. Nate Diaz has left the UFC, but McGregor thinks the trilogy will happen.

McGregor told Ariel Helwani, “I’ll get that again. We’ll get that trilogy at some stage, for sure. That’s when he was gone that he was [supposed to be] doing the show. So, you know what way that is? It’s all politics and all that. We must fight. We’re one a piece. It’s a great rivalry, and it was a great fight. So, we gotta square that away for sure. Am I a person not to get the fights made and done? Look at all the fights I’ve had. When I say it, it happens. I have a load of bouts left in me and a load of stories incomplete, and I’m excited to continue on and get them done.”

McGregor is undoubtedly looking forward to completing the trilogy against Nate Diaz. Hopefully, the fight fans can one day see this fight happening.
