“Too strong and relentless,” Conor McGregor, Teddy Atlas and pros react to Merab Dvalishvili edging Jose Aldo to secure biggest victory at UFC 278

Jose Aldo- Merab Dvalishvili

Merab Dvalishvili just capitalised on the biggest win of his career by outclassing Jose Aldo through his advantage of grappling at UFC 278. Not the most exciting fight, but Dvalishvili started banking on each and every second of the fight even when he was able to secure only 1 takedown after 10+ attempts. Dvalishvili has shown extreme gratitude towards his team, Serra-Longo Fight Team during the Octagon interview.

Dvalishvili is now on a 7-fight winning streak, but he may not fight for the title anytime soon. The reason being is that the current UFC bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling is Dvalishvili’s training partner for more than a decade. But there can be some exciting fights that can be made for the entertainment of fans. Marlon Vera is a name that can be put at par with Dvalishvili’s pace and cardio and therefore both these fighters can put on a show at the most exciting pace for 25 long minutes.

Twitter was overall supportive of the fact that Utah City was welcoming the King of Rio with their open hearts. Regardless, the fight reactions were also interesting as the likes of Conor McGregor, Teddy Atlas, Bryce Mitchell, Daniel Cormier and many more react to the 7-fight winning streak by the Georgian mixed-martial artist and just watch out for who’s next for The Machine. If Merab has withstood Aldo’s takedown defence to secure victory despite such a huge obstacle, he has a lot of problems to deliver as a grappler to the 135 lbs division.

What do you make of Dvalishvili’s win over Aldo? What do you think is next for Aldo? Is it high time for the Brazilian legend to retire in his next fight? How about a legend vs legend matchup between former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and Aldo at UFC 283, when UFC marks its return to Brazil? In all fairness, Aldo is a timeless legend so he can go for either this suggestion or another title run!
