UFC fighter Conor McGregor has been gearing up for his return to the octagon, in 2024. Reeling from his injury that had him benched, he is more than recovered. Recently, the Irishman has been doing social media rounds, providing updates on his progress. McGregor has been getting in top-notch shape, chiseling down in anticipation of his comeback. He has also been expanding his combative skills.

There were recent rumors that the “Notorious” might not make it to the UFC 300 card. CEO Dana White has mentioned that the fighter still needs to go through six months of drug testing pool. The process had already started in October, with the fighter submitting samples to USADA. White had suggested that realistically, a summer return date would be more logical. In the latest thread of tweets, the Irishman was asked by a fan:

Are you in or out for UFC 300?

In a spectacular one-worded fashion, the “Notorious” mentioned:

The UFC 300 fight card is building up with bloated anticipation. With McGregor’s unsettled return over the past, the headlining bouts are yet to be decided. Moreover, the fight card marks a monumental occasion of omission of fighters. The event coincides with Islamic Ramadan and hence would consist of no Islamic fighters. This is inclusive of Islam Makhachev, Kamaru Usman, Khamzat Chimaev, and others.

White also confirmed that he has already scheduled the Las Vegas Sphere to be an all-Mexican bout, hinting at either “Cinco de Mayo” or Mexican Independence Day. So it is likely that there will be no Mexican fighters on the UFC 300 card. With McGregor thus confirming his aspirations for a return, the card is yet to take shape for UFC 300

Conor McGregor names Khabib Nurmagomedov as his dream rematch

Khabib Nurmagomedov is a name that reverberates with UFC synonymously. He has been the #1 pound-for-pound fighter in the promotion, not to mention the UFC lightweight champion. Nurmagomedov announced his retirement after he retained the lightweight title and the preservation of his undefeated record (29-0) against Justin Gaethje in October 2020. He serves in a coaching capacity as of late.

In 2018, UFC 229 was headlined by a lightweight championship bout between undefeated champion Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor. It is one of the most purchased pay-per-view events to date, with monumental buy-ins. The Irishman lost that bout.

But the rivalry did not diminish his respect for the opponent, ever. In a now-deleted tweet, McGregor was asked what his dream rematch would be. He hinted it to be with Nurmagomedov.

McGregor is to make his return to the promotion, at UFC 300. As far as his next opponent goes, it still is Michael Chandler. Chandler has remained inactive for months, given his role in the promotion’s reality combative TV show – The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). Both he and McGregor are opposing judges on the show.
