Conor McGregor might soon make his highly anticipated return to the UFC octagon. And it seems like the Irish superstar has left no room for mistakes in his preparation. It has been well over two years since Conor McGregor last graced the UFC stage with his presence in a thrilling fight.
The reason behind his extended absence was a particularly painful injury during his last outing against Dustin Poirier. Conor McGregor suffered a severe leg injury during his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier. This left him incapable of fighting as he went into recovery. And it looks like McGregor does not wish to take any chances again. In an attempt to fortify himself against the risk of another injury, McGregor has been practicing his leg kicks.
Conor McGregor shared a video of one of these sessions on his Instagram account. It shows him diligently practicing kick-checking drills, clearly indicating his determination to safeguard his leg and overall performance. Understandably, this video has drawn significant attention from fans and fellow fighters who eagerly await his return to the octagon. Despite his absence from competitive action, McGregor has maintained an active profile within the UFC community. Notably, he took up the role of a coach during the 31st season of The Ultimate Fighter earlier this year. This ignited a heated rivalry with none other than Michael Chandler.
Fans had been hopeful for a showdown between McGregor and Chandler towards the end of 2023. However, it appears that this highly anticipated bout would not grace this year’s calendar. With just two months left in the year, it seems this clash is no longer on the horizon.
Conor McGregor submits USADA paperwork to make his UFC comeback
UFC CEO Dana White recently disclosed some exciting news. McGregor will officially re-enter the USADA drug-testing pool, marking his eligibility for competitive action in the year 2024. As anticipation reaches a fever pitch, fans can hardly wait to witness ‘The Notorious’ in his long-awaited comeback to the octagon.
Addressing reporters at a press conference Dana White disclosed that Conor McGregor is not officially in the USADA pool at this point. However, he is to submit his paperwork by next week. McGregor’s return hinges on USADA’s rigorous regulations, mandating that he undergo a minimum of six months of random drug testing before he can step back into the octagon. While the MMA community eagerly anticipates his return, the stakes are high, and excitement levels continue to soar.
