Dana White received a lot of criticism after he decided to leave the main event fight between Cory Sandhagen and Rob Font last weekend. There were many speculations around the scenario, but it seems like the fighter has talked with White about it and everything is fine.
In his latest interview on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Sandhagen revealed his conversation with White. He said: “I actually already talked to Dana [White] about it. I was like, ‘Hey man, this happened, this happened, I really would’ve wanted to open up a lot more but didn’t feel comfortable.’ And he was real cool with it. He was fine with it. He just told me to heal up and he was real nice about it….He’s a busy dude and all of that. But yeah, when I talked to him, he was real friendly, real nice, was super understanding.”
Sandhagen explained that he and White had a good conversation in which the fighters were able to understand each other perfectly. The bantamweight mentioned that White is very busy, and it was nothing intentional.
Aljamain Sterling wasn’t impressed by Cory Sandhagen’s approach during the fight
After losing his shot at the bantamweight title in 2021, Cory Sandhagen has successfully bounced back and is currently on a three-fight win streak. It is possible that the fighter will be contesting for the title in the future, however, the champion, Aljamain Sterling, wasn’t that satisfied with Sandhagen.
In one of his YouTube videos, Sterling mentioned that he expected more from Sandhagen. He said: “Cory was in a position to be offensive and he chose not to be…That wasn’t the performance, anagain…I really expected a lot more fireworks or a little bit more exchanges..Respect to Sandhagen for taking the path of least resistance, but you can’t just lay on them. That gives wrestlers a bad name.”
From Sterling’s point of view, Sandhagen’s efforts in the fight weren’t impressive and painted wrestling in a negative light. This shows that Sterling’s criticism isn’t just his own opinion, but also a way of looking at how Sandhagen’s actions affect the sport’s reputation.
