Charles Oliveira is undoubtedly one of the most loved and respected fighters in recent times. The fighter won the lightweight championship belt in 2021 but unfortunately lost it recently to Islam Makhachev at UFC 280. During his short stint as a champion, Oliveira proved his skills and defended them twice in a row.
His loss against Makhachev was a shocker as the Dagestani absolutely dominated the fight from start to finish. Makhachev submitted Oliveira, who holds the record for the most submissions in the history of UFC. After the fight, Oliveira and his team were extremely disappointed and so were many fans. Many were expecting Oliveira to immediately take his chance for a title rematch, however, it seems like ‘Do Bronx’ has different plans.
The fighter recently uploaded a short clip on his Twitter account where he spoke to his fans and followers. It was in Portuguese but Twitter users translated it into English. One user translated,
“What’s up family. Look, I’m taking some time to rest off, but look at that my hat. I’m taking care of my animals, taking a little bit of rest so next year I can be 100%. Thank you for every message and love. We’re together on this, let’s go, let’s work, make it happen!“
It seems like the fighter wants to stay away from fighting for a while and focus on other things. This might be a good move considering that it would help him to get his motivation back again.
Islam Makhachev or Alex Volkanovski who will Charles Oliveira fight when he comes back?
The lightweight division has always been one of the most competitive divisions in UFC history. Currently, the division has some of the best mixed martial artists such as Islam Makhachev, Dustin Poirier, Charles Oliveira, Justin Gaethje, Michael Chandler, etc.
However, the champion, Makhachev will have to defend his title against featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski next. The pound-for-pound ace has always shown his interest in moving up a weight class. He finally got a chance when Makhachev called the Aussie right after winning the bout.
Considering the potential of the match-up, UFC didn’t waste much time and scheduled the fight. The fight is going to take place at UFC 284 in Perth, Australia. Olivera will definitely have a close look at the fight as he might have to face the winner when he comes back.
