Dan Hooker and Tony Ferguson are both coming off of losses in their previous outings. A potential fight between the two is certainly a big possibility now than ever. The fight fans are also making a case for their matchup. Both of the fighters are fan favourites and have been involved in some of the best fights in UFC.
While The Hangman is coming off a loss to Arnold Allen after cutting down to featherweight earlier this year at UFC Fight Night 204. He is on a 2 fight-losing streak after beating Nasrat Haqparast at UFC 266. The Hangman‘s last loss in the 155lbs division came at the hands of top lightweight prospect Islam Makhachev at UFC 267. The Hangman was a replacement for the fight. With a record of 21-12, the Hangman is looking to bounce back into the win column.
On other hand, after capturing the Interim Lightweight title and racking up a 12-fight win streak, El Cucuy(25-7) was a dominant force in the division and was set to face the then champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, after multiple cancellations, he went ahead and took a fight against Justin Gaethje with the interim title on the line. Following his loss to Gaethje, he lost three of his next bouts. Consequently slipping through the lightweight rankings to end up at #11.
Dan Hooker calls for a fight against The El Cucuy
As both the fighters are on a losing skid and put on exciting fights whenever they’re in the octagon, fight fans are calling for a matchup between these two. Both of these fighters are coming off of a loss and would be looking to get a win. Ferguson was KO’d for the first time in his MMA carrier at the hands of Michael Chandler at UFC 274.
The Hangman after coming in as a replacement right after his win against Haqparast at UFC 266, lost to Makhachev at UFC 267. Following the loss, The Hangman went down to Featherweight and faced Arnold Allen. He lost in the first round by TKO.
Reacting to a lot of MMA fans calling the UFC to set up a matchup between The Hangman and the former Interim Champ. The Hangman took to Twitter posting an image with a warning as well as a callout to El Cucuy. The Hangman wrote,” I’ll smash ya face in@TonyFergusonXT.”
