Dana White announces a crazy matchup for Tony Ferguson at the welterweight division
Dana White and Tony Ferguson
According to UFC president Dana White, former interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson will move up to welterweight for his next fight. El Cucuy is on rough roads as he has lost his last four fights. He was even finished for the first time in his carrier in his last matchup at UFC 274.
Tony Ferguson will look to make a turnaround after a brutal knockout loss to Michael Chandler in his last outing. He is now on a 4 fight-losing streak. After losing his interim title at the hands of Justin Gaetjhe at UFc 249, El Cucuy is still struggling to get a win.
Earlier today UFC President announced that Ferguson will face Li Jingliang for his next fight which will be at Welterweight. This will be El Cucuy’s first fight at Welterweight since he defeated Ramsey Nijem in the TUF 13 Finale in 2011. The fight will take place on the UFC 279 Chimaev vs Diaz card in Las Vegas.
Jingliang recently competed against Muslim Salikhov in July this year. He won that fight via TKO in the second round. The Leech was coming off of a loss to the up-and-comer Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 267. The Leech is 2-2 in his last four outings in the octagon and has a record of 19-7 till now.

The fight with the former Interim champion is undoubtedly the biggest fight for the Leech’s carrier. The Chinese welterweight joined the UFC back in 2014 and owns seven post-fight bonuses to his name. Jingliang will look to capitalise on his last win over Muslim Salkhov and a win over a veteran like El Cucuy will undoubtedly shoot him into stardom.
On the other hand, Ferguson started his career at 170lbs and won The Ultimate Fighter 13 tournament at welterweight. He will be returning to the weight class for the first time in over a decade in this fight. He will look to break his losing skid and get into the win column.

White further confirmed that the fight will take place in the Welterweight division. El Cucuy will look to break his 4 fight-losing skids. While Jingliang will look to capitalise on his last win and a win over one of the biggest names in the UFC will sure launch him into the limelight.
