According to Dana White, the bout between Sean O’Malley and Petr Yan at UFC 280 is similar to Conor McGregor vs. Jose Aldo. At UFC 280, Sean O’Malley will take on Petr Yan in what promises to be a huge opportunity for him.

UFC President Dana White believes a victory over Petr Yan, may catapult O’Malley into stardom. The fight between Sean O’Malley and Petr Yan at UFC 280, in the opinion of Dana White, is analogous to Conor McGregor vs. Jose Aldo.

Even though McGregor was well-known before their memorable UFC 194 match in December 2014, when he defeated Aldo in just 13 seconds, his recognition and significance skyrocketed. O’Malley has hailed McGregor as one of the guys he wishes to emulate in his career on numerous occasions.

Speaking to TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter Dana White said, “O’Malley is on the cusp of being a massive global superstar…There was talk earlier about Conor, he said, ‘I’d like to be as big as Conor’ and stuff like that. Well, if you want to compare it to Conor – this is like the Conor vs. Jose Aldo fight.”

White draws several parallels between McGregor’s situation and the chance O’Malley has in front of him. A winner over Petr Yan will sure earn a shot at the championship.
