UFC CEO Dana White holds Power Slap in very high regard. It features competitors from around the globe that try to hash out their technique and power. In the past, White has bragged about the success and production quality of Power Slap. Recently, he took it to a new level by comparing it to boxing and the NFL.
In a recent interview after Dana White’s Contender Series, the UFC CEO divulged more useful details on the sport of Power Slap. Reiterating the concept of the production, White said, “...when a slap ends, immediately the replay is up there from thirty different angles. We have more cameras than the NFL.” Hence, he boasted of having more camera coverage than the NFL for it. “HBO Boxing doesn’t compare,” said White, taking another dig at boxing. An NFL game has 12-16 or 12-20 cameras depending on the scenario, and Dana White claimed to have more for his Power Slap promotion.
This was not White’s first time talking crap about other sports leagues or competitors. For a long time, the UFC CEO dissed on Showtime Boxing. Despite having worked with Showtime President Stephen Espinoza, they have a very rocky history. He said Showtime boxing was one of the worst fight promotions and should be off-air.
Before this, White and Espinoza had worked on the promotion of “The Money Fight” between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. White redirected the attention to the Power Slap 5 Live on Rumble on Oct. 25th, which would have four title matches. It will feature the titles of middleweight, light heavyweight, heavyweight, and super heavyweight on the line. He also boasted that the production would set new standards in television production in sports.
Fans react to Dana White’s bold comparison between Power Slap and the NFL
Dana White, under the patronage of others, has formulated a brand new contraption of a striking game, called Power Slap. The sport, now officially under the Nevada State Athletic Commission, is considered a premier sport all by itself.
Power Slap itself has had quite a mixed bag of fate, once it launched with an eight-episode series, in early 2023. The definitive analytics of the Power Slap video game was deemed to be controversially wrong. The hype of the sport itself also simmered down by a degree, after launch. And White himself caught the shrapnel of many varied reactions for that. Added to that, when as of the latest he went on to brag of recording attributes (having more cameras than the NFL for the promotion), more reactions poured in. Some supportive; some deliberately berating.
Despite White’s best efforts, some fans have even retorted back with the sentiment that they are not a fan of Power Slap. Hence the quality of said promotion does not really intrigue them. Power Slap is set to return for its fifth event on Oct. 25, 2023, at its defined sporting venue, the UFC Apex.
