Aljamain Sterling responds to Dana White's rant
Dana White and Aljamain Sterling‘s relationship is currently going through a rough phase. The two have openly criticized each other. Here’s what the Bantamweight champion said about UFC President’s predilection for Conor McGregor.
Aljamain Sterling is disappointed with Dana White’s lack of appreciation toward him. The Funkmaster feels he isn’t half appreciated for his efforts while Dana absolutely worships Conor McGregor. Many fighters across the years have pointed out the UFC President’s likeness to a few select athletes. Recently Dana White put down Aljamain Sterling in the post-fight press conference at UFC Vegas 73. “Sterling is one of those guys who can’t get out of his own way,” declared Dana White. This was after a reporter brought up the topic of UFC 292’s main event postponement. Aljamain Sterling had mentioned that he isn’t sure whether he would fight rival Sean O’Malley in their scheduled bout in August. He had just fought Henry Cejudo at UFC 288 just a few weeks back and successfully defeated the returning former champion.
Funkmaster shot back at Dana on his podcast ‘The Weekly Scraps’ where he condemned Dana for putting him down and tainting his name. He expected a better and more supportive answer from the UFC President. “Absolutely the fight’s done. We spoke to him. This kid always shows up to the fight, he always makes weight, he does all the media stuff. We know he’s gonna show up“. Sterling questioned why Dana White’s response wasn’t something similar to this. “Yeah, we know he just fought two weeks ago. Yeah, he’s a little banged up. But he gave us his word that he’s gonna show up for this fight. The kid’s a stud”.
Sterling questions the treatment Conor McGregor receives whenever he does anything. Meanwhile Sterling feels he is thrashed even after he accepted a title fight three months after his previous one. “Whenever Conor does something, ‘Oh my God! Isn’t he awesome? Like, can I be awesome too? I’m not asking for much,” he said.
Aljamain Sterling clarifies rumors on his fighting Sean O’Malley
The entire verbal scuffle happened after Aljamain Sterling stated his doubts about fighting Sean O’Malley as early as August. This was because he had just suffered injuries fighting Henry Cejudo at UFC 288. “…you’ve got Henry Cejudo, ‘the greatest combat athlete of all-time,’ I beat this guy, also with a partially torn bicep tendon,” he revealed.
Even rival Sean O’Malley believes Dana White announced the fight prematurely. But everybody took Aljamain Sterling’s words the wrong way. “Listen, I didn’t say I’m not fighting. Dana, I said I’m fighting, Hunter, I’m fighting,” he said. “What else do you want me to do? So f**k, just figure this s**t out.”
He has even gone as far as challenging Sean for the fight in July instead of August. “Fuck it. Let’s run it July 8th and see if you really built like that.” he wrote on Twitter. It remains to be seen if Dana White responds to Aljamain Sterling’s callouts and complaints. The UFC President confirmed that the fight is “absolutely, positively on”.
