“It pissed me off,” Dana White goes off about Clay Guida faking retirement in the octagon during live event at UFC Kansas
Dana White was not thrilled with Clay Guida following his loss to Rafa Garcia, as he faked his retirement, which had the UFC president fuming.
Recently on UFC on ESPN: Holloway vs. Allen, Clay Guida, and Rafa Garcia locked horns inside the octagon. It was a three-round bout that ended in favor of Rafa Garcia. Guida failed to win after a solid effort, falling to a score of 30-17, 30-27, 30-27.
However, later something happened that had Dana White fuming. After the fight, Clay Guida took off his gloves inside the octagon, and Daniel Cormier’s response was obvious: he believed Clay Guida was retiring from MMA. However, he took the gloves to trade with Rafa Garcia, which drew a lot of attention.
The entire arena was caught off guard as they thought the veteran fighter was retiring; however, he pulled off his gloves to trade them with his opponent. During the post-fight interview, Daniel Cormier handed the mic to Guida to have his retirement moment, but he heard the opposite.
Guida, after taking the mic, said, “I tricked you guys,”. Following that, he explained, “There ain’t no way I’m walking away yet. I want to congratulate this young man Rafa Garcia and I want to ask Rafa Garcia to trade gloves with me because that was a heck of a performance by him.”
Dana White was not a happy man after Clay Guida’s act during post-fight
Dana White was displeased with Clay Guida’s act and expressed his displeasure with what had occurred.“That pissed me off actually, to be honest with you,” White said. While it was an act of humor or trick, Dana wasn’t pleased, asserting, “No, that pissed me off”.
Dana White made it clear that he doesn’t want to tolerate nonsense, saying, “I like [Clay Guida], he’s a nice guy, but you’re faking your retirement so you can say f****** happy birthday to somebody?” He continued, “We’re running a live event here, you know what I mean?” He added, “I was not happy about that. He was saying happy birthday to somebody or something. That was not good.”
Clay began sending out “Happy Birthday” wishes as he removed his gloves after his fight, one for his mother and the other for a spectator in the arena. This may appear to be a hilarious, adorable act, but the UFC President didn’t see it with the same eye.
