Sean O’Malley was waiting in the wings to challenge the champion at UFC 288. Once again, Aljamain Sterling proved his critics wrong as he registered a victory over former champion Henry Cejudo at UFC 288. The MMA world witnessed the return of Cejudo after three years away from the octagon. However, Cejudo failed to defeat Sterling in the main event.
Both fighters demonstrated their grappling, takedown, and striking skills at UFC 288. Two judges scored the fight 48-47 in favor of Sterling, and one scored 48-47 in favor of Cejudo. Aljamain Sterling defeated the former champion to extend his reign as the king of bantamweights.
Sterling praised Henry Cejudo in his post-fight interview. He said, “Hats off to Henry Cejudo. I wasn’t sure which way the decision was going to go. I thought I had it 3-2. I wish I could have done a little bit better. Henry’s a f****** dog. He’s a legend.” UFC officials brought Sean O’Malley to hype up a future title bout with Sterling.
O’Malley is on a five-fight unbeaten streak with notable victories over Petr Yan and Thomas Almeida. He defeated Yan in a controversial bout where many fans gave the victory to Yan. However, O’Malley put on a stellar performance that convinced Dana White and the UFC to give him the next title shot.

Dana White and Joe Rogan intervened in the face-off between Sean O’Malley and Aljamain Sterling
When Sean O’Malley entered the UFC 288 cage, he exchanged words with the victorious champ. When Joe Rogan raised the mic, Sean said, “You better look better than that.” After repeating it continuously, O’Malley said, “You looked like s***. You better be able to cut weight real soon.”
Enraged, Aljamain said, “So why’d you run? Why’d you turn down the title shot? That’s what I thought. Because I’ll drag your ass up and down this octagon. Get this piece of s*** out of my cage.” Sean O’Malley already slipped off his jacked during the staredown, and Merab Dvalishvili wore it.
When O’Malley was about to leave the cage, he wanted his jacket back. O’Malley and Merab exchanged some words and almost got heated. At this moment, Sterling almost clashed with O’Malley before Dana White intervened and broke all tensions. Joe Rogan also made sure of fighters not getting into another altercation.
