Dana White is big on free speech. He recently made some comments on the difference between freedom of expression in the United States and in Canada. Here is what happened:

Dana White appeared on The Rush with Maxx Crosby. There he made his comments on the government dictating hate speech and other important matters. He said:

You have freedom of expression. The difference is the government can decide that's hate speech. We don't realize this, we talk about Canada, right? Now, I don't care what color you are, what race you are, religion, sexual orientation, any of this stuff. Everybody says something, you know this is America. You can say whatever you want. And nothing's gonna happen to you.

He has also said that the UFC will never stop fighters from expressing themselves. White revealed that he does not tell people what to say or what to think.

Last year, White ordered the removal of all Peloton bikes from UFC gyms. This happened after comedian, Theo Von told White about a story about Peloton pulling ads on his podcast. White said that he is committed to freedom of expression and autonomy within the UFC and that he is unwilling to tolerate censorship or external control.

Dana White grills reporter over question on free speech

UFC CEO, Dana White became enraged at the UFC 297 press conference. White criticized a reporter who questioned whether UFC fighters have a “leash” on what they can say during interviews. White said that every one of his fighters has the right to free speech.

White responded by saying that he does not give anybody a leash. He defended the free speech of his fighters, saying that they have all the freedom to express their thoughts. He said he does not control what people say or tell people what to believe.

The UFC CEO holds a firm stance against telling another human being what to say, what to think, or putting restrictions against their words. Strickland made homophobic comments before UFC 297, and White defended Strickland’s right to call out the Canadian government. White said that he disagreed with much of what Strickland said, but he does not control what his fighters say or believe.
