“Missing a chunk of her head,” Dana White says Julianna Pena requires immediate plastic surgery after gruesome UFC 277 beatdown

“Missing a chunk of her head,” Dana White says Julianna Pena requires immediate plastic surgery after gruesome UFC 277 beatdown

White revealed the severity of Pena's injuries at the press conference

Julianna Pena found out the hard way at UFC 277, that one does simply tread over the lioness and walk away scar free. Pena became the first woman to beat Amanda in years when she gained the submission victory over Nunes ay UFC 269. After gaining the title, Pena seemed to be confident in her abilities to beat Amanda every time they square off.

While a few fans and fighters suggested that it was the biggest fluke in the sport’s history Nunes seemed hell-bent on proving that it was just that, a fluke. At UFC 277, the two rematched after a heated week of trash talking where Pena dismissed whole divisions while claiming 135 was the only legitimate one.

From the opening round, a calm and collected Nunes was able to pick apart Pena, landing heavy strikes and mixing it up with well-placed trips. In fact, Nunes was able to secure the record for most knockdowns in a single round for a woman’s fight. Though Pena managed to throw in a few submission attempts, it was no match for the ruthless hunger in Nunes to prove that she was the better fighter.

In the third round, Nunes landed heavy elbows on the ground, which opened up a significant cut in Pena’s hairline. While the cutman did a commendable job between rounds, as the fourth progressed there were more heavy strikes thrown by Nunes, that further opened up the cut resulting in Pena resembling some of Tony Ferguson’s opponents back when he was on his 12-fight winning streak

By the end of the fight, a beat and bloodied Pena had to get the finish but was still easily neutralized by Pena who at one point was gushing out blood from her forehead while caught in a guillotine. After the fifth, Pena was immediately rushed backstage, in need of medical attention. At the post-fight presser, Dana White would reveal why that was.

Dana revealed that Pena had in fact suffered more gruesome injuries than was visible on the surface.” She’s got a big chuck of her head missing,” said White as he revealed that Pena had been rushed to immediate plastic surgery.
