Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz have had one of the most storied rivalries in the UFC. They are 1-1 in the UFC and always seemed destined for a trilogy. UFC CEO Dana White had expressed interest in it in the past. However, Diaz is not with the UFC, and McGregor has not fought in almost three years.
Nonetheless, Diaz recently flirted with the idea of coming back to the UFC for UFC 306 at the Las Vegas Sphere via X. McGregor had also insinuated the same as well. However, UFC CEO Dana White was not in favor of that idea. He spoke of it at the UFC 299 presser. This is what he said about it.
I'm looking for Mexicans at the Sphere uh on Mexican Independence Day... I'm not doing that (Diaz vs McGregor III)Dana White via UFC 299 post-fight presser
Las Vegas Sphere is Dana White’s dream venue. Moreover, the previous UFC Fight Night, which coincided with Mexican Independence Day, was a huge success. As of now, Alexa Grasso is the only Mexican champion in the UFC. White recently announced that Grasso will coach opposite Valentina Shevchenko in the upcoming The Ultimate Fighter reality series.
Grasso and Shevchenko will certainly fight at UFC 306. At one point in 2023, Mexico had two undisputed champions and one interim champion in the UFC. However, Brandon Moreno lost the flyweight title to Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 290. Moreover, Yair Rodriguez lost the title unification fight against Alexander Volkanovski at the same PPV.
Dana White on the UFC’s debut in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
The UFC will mark their debut in Saudi Arabia in June. PFL had already debuted in the Kingdom with the PFL vs Bellator PPV. The original plan of the UFC was to debut on March 2, but undisclosed reasons delayed it until June. Ariel Helwani remarked that an inferior fight card was the reason, but Dana White refuted the claim.
White spoke of the debut in Riyadh at the post-fight press conference of UFC 299. Riyadh has hosted high-profile boxing events recently, and they have made a spectacle out of the events. However, Dana White stated that the UFC will handle production when they debut in the country. In the case of boxing, that is not the case in Riyadh.
Knockout Chaos, the recent boxing PPV in Riyadh, featured Francis Ngannou and Anthony Joshua. Ngannou suffered a brutal knockout loss against Joshua. White spoke of it as well. He stated that a similar thing would’ve happened if Tyson Fury had taken Ngannou seriously at Battle of the Baddest.
