It’s been a long while since 2001. At Dana White’s behest, brothers Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta acquired the UFC for $2 million. At the helm of the premier combat sports promotion since then, White has no wear and tear. Nor does he even consider retiring. He revealed as much on the Lex Fridman Podcast. White lets in on how the major populous and prime personalities like combat sports keep him going.
During the Lex Fridman Podcast Episode #421, he talked about many topics. From Valentina Shevchenko‘s traditional virtues to Jon Jones‘ undisputed status as the G.O.A.T over Khabib Nurmagomedov. A strain of thought he expressed to Julian Edelman as well, on the ‘Games With Names’ Podcast. Now, here’s what he says about the idea of retiring after more than 20 years of service:
Every day when I get out of bed, I strap up and go to f*cking war...Everybody talks about retiring. F*ck that shit! What am I gonna do when I retire? What would I do? I like to go to war. I like to battle...I like to win. Sometimes I lose, but then I have to come back from the loss.Dana White on the Lex Fridman Podcast Episode #421
White advocates that there’s always going to be ups and downs. But one has to bounce back from them. Maintaining a healthy upkeep with Steve Deleonardis of the NELK Boys and casino owner duo Fertitta brothers, he has a knack for gambling. Hence, the avid gambler White alluded to losses in gambling or social media interactions, dubbing down people’s confidence.
However, Dana White has close associations with sociopolitical and cultural staples. He invoked the likes of Donald Trump, Mark Zuckerberg, and others taking a liking to combat sports culture. Hence, for their sake as well, White does not entertain the thought of leaving all these behind soon. Alongside, there are other things he touched upon as well.
Dana White engages in a tell-tale session about building up UFC, and its fighters with Lex Fridman
As the CEO and helmsman of UFC, Dana White has to engage in continuous strains of social media appearances. Despite recently walking out of a podcast, the weary White maintains some moniker of social media outing.
Appearing on The Pound 4 Pound podcast with Henry and Kamaru, he detailed building up the UFC. He also detailed the process of making his first million in the process. Now, in a recent appearance on the Lex Fridman Podcast Episode #421, he had similar tales to tell.
He touched on topics of fighters and his stature as an avid gambler. He has a close friendship with Republican nominee and former president Donald Trump. And on his roster of fighters.
Kayla Harrison’s UFC 300 debut has garnered much anticipation. There have been serious concerns amongst enthusiasts and MMA pundits on her debut being under risk after agreeing to drop down to 135 pounds. Talking to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports, she said that measures were already in place for the cut. During the segment, White lauded her preparedness and buffed appearance ahead of UFC debut.
White also talked similarly about new signing Michael ‘Venom’ Page‘s spectacular debut at UFC 299. He also highlighted his friendship with color commentator Joe Rogan and Trump. He mentioned Trump ever being fazed during the passing of his ex-wife Ivana on July 14, 2022.
