“Just grabbed me”- Dana White received a word of caution from Joe Rogan to not book Islam vs Dariush
Joe Rogan- Islam Makhachev- Dana White
The MMA world is now backing up the Islam Makhachev to fight against Charles Oliveira and Dana White is in the top of that list to support it, thanks to Joe Rogan for it. Oliveira just came off a spectacular victory over another lethal striker in Justin Gaethje at UFC 274 via first round submission. Unfortunately for him, Oliveira just lost his belt due to missing the championship weight during weigh ins by just 0.5 lbs. But regardless, Oliveira’s next fight is definitely going to be a title bout.
Regarding Islam Makhachev’s situation, he was supposed to fight Beneil Dariush to decide who is the number 1 contender who deserves to be next in line. Makhachev is on a 9-fight winning streak and Oliveira is on a 11-fight winning streak. Now, the way things turned over by stripping Oliveira of the championship, it all makes sense that Makhachev fights Oliveira because Makhachev has a longer winning streak than Dariush and is ranked above him as well.
Daniel Cormier and Dana White agree to Joe Rogan’s point as well
During the post-event press conference of UFC 274, White was asked if he would be willing to officiate Makhachev vs Dariush or if the plans have changed. “I do. But Joe Rogan just grabbed me in the hallway and told me not to,” said White. [h/t Essentially Sports]
In the tweet below, you can see newly inducted UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier and Dana White sharing a conversation as well. Based on how Makhachev fits into the entire picture. You can see White telling Cormier as well as what Rogan told him.
In case you wonder what was Rogan’s point of view exactly, we need to step back and go to his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience with UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping, there Rogan talked about how Makhachev not fighting at UFC 272 made all the sense, a point of view different from the MMA world as they believed that Makhachev should have taken the event.
“So, he’s punishing him for not doing something stupid? Because that’s not a wise move to fight in the main event; you are right there, about to face for the title,” said Rogan to Bisping. [h/t Essentially Sports]
What did you make of all this? Do you agree with Rogan, Cormier and White that Makhachev should directly stand next in line for the title? Who do you think wins between Makhachev and Oliveira if it ever happens? Both are the elite of the elite in grappling aspect of the sport and this will assure that it definitely goes to the ground. Makhachev undefeated since 2015, Oliveira, undefeated since 2018, who becomes the next champ!?
