Tom Aspinall called his shots to fight the undisputed champion, Jon Jones, following the interim title win. Also, he was open to unifying the belt with Stipe Miocic or any other heavyweights. However, UFC CEO Dana White outrightly dismissed the idea and persisted with the legacy matchup Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic. Now, Aspinall expressed his displeasure about the matchup and mocked the UFC for awarding Miocic the title shot.

In his recent tweet on X, Tom Aspinall trolled Stipe Miocic for getting the title shot by stating some facts. He compared the timeframe when Stipe Miocic last won a fight with the release of GTA: San Andreas. Here is what he said:

Last time Stipe fought and won, GTA: San Andreas had just come out on PS2. He will fight next for the undisputed heavyweight title, ahead of me, who’s the interim champ, active and ranked #1 in the world right now. This makes me quite upset

Although the tweet expressed his disappointment and frustration, the fact about GTA was inaccurate as it was released in 2004. The UFC matched up Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic for UFC 295. However, the fight fell through after champion Jones injured himself while training.

So, the UFC hastily put forth an interim championship bout between Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich, which the former won via knockout. Now, being an active fighter unlike Miocic, Aspinall ridiculed the idea of the UFC guaranteeing Miocic a title fight over him.

Stipe Miocic last fought Francis Ngannou in March 2021. So, he was out of action for almost three years. However, considering his accolades, the UFC still matched him up with the undisputed champion Jon Jones. But Tom Aspinall was furious and voiced the matter out loud.

Tom Aspinall belonged to the new-gen fighters, while Stipe Miocic was a veteran of the sport. However, in 2024, they find themselves battling for a challenger spot to fight for the UFC heavyweight title. The UFC preferred Miocic to take on Jon Jones instead of making the deserved matchup with Aspinall, the interim champion. As such, he took to X to vent his frustration.

In a recent tweet of his, Tom Aspinall compared his UFC timeline with Stipe Miocic’s and made sure the facts were right. As such, here is what he tweeted:

Final fun fact: Since stipe last won a fight (Aug ‘20) , I have blown my knee out, went thru the rehab process and had a year off, also had 7 UFC fights, including 4 wins vs top 10 ranked opponents and won the interim title on 2 weeks notice

Although Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic were legends of MMA, and a legacy matchup between them could be fun, Tom Aspinall was the deserving one. He has a record of 7-1 in the UFC and is currently the interim champion. As such, he also tried his best to persuade and call out the UFC. However, nothing seemed to work as UFC CEO Dana White stood firm in making Jones vs. Miocic. So, in the meantime, Aspinall might defend his interim title with any other heavyweight contender.
